Notch is proud to partner with The Trustees to bring you a series of public, family-friendly Traveling Biergarten events in some of Massachusetts’ most scenic places.

We're heading back Stevens-Coolidge Place for Oktoberfesten-festing!

We'll be set up in the historic gardens and lawn of Stevens-Coolidge place from 4-9 with games and activities, biergarten furniture, session beer in half-liter mugs and lots of room for you! Bring your friends, a picnic, and enjoy these special surroundings.

About Stevens-Coolidge Place:  The Stevens-Coolidge Place is a wonderful example of “the country place,” when rural retreats were designed as places that integrated indoor and outdoor spaces – and that were meant to be lived in as well as admired. The property served as a summer home and agricultural estate for John Gardner Coolidge and his wife, Helen Stevens Coolidge, from 1914-1962 and features two connected late-Federal period farmhouses, four distinctive gardens, and a greenhouse complex. Since becoming a Trustees’ property, Stevens-Coolidge offers tours of the home, which includes the family’s original furnishings, many garden-centric events, and several festivals during the warmer months.

The Trustees is a non-profit that preserves, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts. Their network of over 100 farms, historic homes, and wooded areas spans from The Berkshires to the Cape and Islands and everywhere in between.

Doug Aitken New Horizon Happening at the Field Farm

Imagine a 100-foot-tall mirrored hot air balloon floating over our inspiring landscapes reflecting and illuminating the world in new and unexpected ways. Its appearances initiate live events—happenings that are each unique gatherings of brilliant minds and groundbreaking artists. Exhilarating music, intriguing conversations, plus food and drink, mean fun for all ages. Come experience artist Doug Aitken’s incomparable vision, the once-in-a-lifetime wonder called New Horizon.

This ticketed event engages with The Future of Culture and features a dialogue with Doug Aitken himself and Pedro Alonzo and music from Destroyer and No Age. Buy your tickets here https://www.eventbrite.com/e/new-horizon-happening-the-future-of-culture-with-destroyer-no-age-tickets-60911149889.

About Field Farm: The northern Berkshires provide a perfect natural backdrop to the pair of Modernist homes that are the showpieces of this singular property. Surrounding the two architectural gems (one is now a bed-and-breakfast and one is open for guided tours) are more than 300 acres of open fields, woods and wetlands, through which four miles of footpaths meander.

The two houses here are terrific illustrations of trends in post-World War II architecture.  Featuring an unparalleled view of Mt. Greylock, Massachusetts' highest peak, Field Farm is a refreshing change from your usual bed & breakfast. Edwin Goodell, Jr. designed the 1948 Bauhaus-inspired house for Lawrence and Eleanor Bloedel, avid modern art and furniture collectors of the time. Modern artwork adorns the interiors, and the surrounding landscaped gardens boast thirteen sculptures, including works by Richard M. Miller and Herbert Ferber. The house itself is almost a museum of modern furnishings, featuring reproduced Eileen Gray tables and George Nelson saucer pendant lamps in the Master bedroom, and a Noguchi coffee table, Kagan sofas, and a reproduction Eames chair in the living room.

The Holmes Reservation is a treasured piece of open space in an otherwise developed city center. From the top of the field, you can take in distant views of Plymouth Harbor, Duxbury Beach, Clark’s Island, and Gurnet Point. At the foot of the field is a small woodland bounded by abandoned tracks of the Old Colony Railroad. And, don't miss the beach nearby – it’s a great spot for kids to explore.

Before the Revolutionary War, a section of the reservation's field was part of a famous “Muster Ground.” Plymouth farmers in the militia would gather here to practice shooting their muskets and marching in formation.

We're heading back Stevens-Coolidge Place for our first Trustees event of the year!

We'll be set up in the historic gardens and lawn of Stevens-Coolidge place from 12-6 with games and activities, biergarten furniture, session beer in half-liter mugs and lots of room for you! Bring your friends, a picnic, and enjoy these special surroundings.

On Sun, June 2, we are happy to be joined by Polish Prince Pierogies and Benson’s Homemade Ice Cream.
